SYOB (Start Your Own Business) Workshops

Our popular monthly workshop offers attendees a snapshot of the entrepreneurial process. Attendees learn what characteristics successful entrepreneurs have in common, how to identify a viable business opportunity, and about the process of writing a business plan. If you are exploring the idea of starting your own business, this workshop helps you plan your next steps and puts your feet firmly on the path to success.

SYONPO (Start Your Own Non-Profit Organization) Workshops

Our workshop for social entrepreneurs features information about how to start up and run a non-profit organization. Attendees will learn how a business plan is still relevant in a non-profit setting and how to adapt it for unique issues such as governance, tax-exempt status, and fundraising. This workshop is an ideal fit for anyone with the entrepreneurial spirit who is looking to channel it into a social mission.

Start Up! Chicago

Start Up! Chicago is a course through which aspiring entrepreneurs learn how to conduct market research, forecast financial potential, write a business plan, and take the right steps to launch a new venture. The 10-week program integrates classroom instruction, guest entrepreneurs, in-class exercises, case studies, and business plan assignments. Students learn whether self-employment is appropriate for them, and how to launch a venture regardless of their background and familiarity with business.

DePaul New Venture Challenge

A business plan competition for the DePaul community in which teams led by DePaul students or recent alumni compete for a prize of cash and entrepreneurial services. The competition progresses through several rounds, culminating in presentations to a panel of expert judges. Throughout the competition, teams are judged on their ability to turn their business plan into a successful venture.

Entrepreneurship Week

E Week is a campus-wide event celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit at DePaul through programs and activities targeted towards each of our seven schools and colleges. Past E Week’s have included seminars on intellectual property, social entrepreneurship, and entrepreneurship in the arts. There is something for every entrepreneurial-minded student during E Week!

Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO)

Open to students at all schools and colleges at DePaul. CEO is an international organization whose mission is to further the entrepreneurial ambitions of undergraduates. Members engage in entrepreneurial events, manage a chapter business, and attend an annual national conference.

NextBigThing Competition

Do you have a “great idea”?
If so, you are encouraged to enter NextBigThing, a business idea competition presented by the Coleman Entrepreneurship Center and the Center for Creativity and Innovation. NextBigThing challenges students to present their great business ideas to a panel of judges. All ideas are welcome.
